Welcome to Guyra Shire Council

The Council has six (6) Councillors who are elected for a four-year term. The Mayor is elected from the existing Councillors, by Council, for a one year term each September. Matters requiring the making of policy are referred to Council for decision and the application of such policies, on a day-to-day basis, is carried out by the General Manager and various Directors.

The New England Tablelands (Noxious Plants) County Council, trading as New England Weeds Authority, is a single purpose local government authority, established under Section 387 of the Local Government Act 1993, as the control authority for noxious weeds in the Armidale Dumaresq Council, Uralla Shire Council, Guyra Shire Council and Walcha Council areas.
